Varney trains

What makes Varney special when  you compare it with other modeltrains?

Varney was one of the first  modelers equipping their trains with real working suspension.

Varney was one of the pioneers working on h0 scale.

The nice working super valves.

And above all, the Varney motor!

It was one of the most sophisticated pieces of model engineering of that time.

But hey, look at the models! Varney was the first offering an articulated 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone made by Varney pieces!

His Super Pacific’s, Consolidations and Mikado’s were works of art.

And the cast detail on the late Berkshire was absolutely superb!

If you want a complete reference on all the Varney models, please buy the Greenberg reference guide. It’s published in 1991 but it’s still the standard according to Varney collectors.

This site contains technical information why Varney is special to me and many others who are collecting Varney trains.

I will show you the secrets of the Varney motor.

There will be a chapter on the several valve gears.

And I will describe some interesting Varney models.

So, enjoy this site and keep the good’ol Varney’s running!

The Varney motor

Varney economy models were originally supplied by Pittman motors. This is a special chapter about the different types of motors not only used by Varney but also used by many other manufacturers of modeltrains and trolleys. Often was the power source of a slot car racer a Pittman motor, these types are also listed. Note: this list is still under construction, so if you have any other information, please let me know!
